FIGHT ANIMAL TESTING!!!

PROCTER & GAMBLE refuses to stop testing its products on animals, despite the fact that these tests are not required by any law, and despite the fact that more reliable and humane alternatives do exist.

Some common P&G brands to boycott:
Fabreze
Old Spice
Secret
Ivory
Charmin
Dreft / Bounce / Cheer / Downy / Era / Gain / Tide laundry soap
Luvs / Pampers
Puffs
Duracell Batteries
Camay / Zest / Safeguard soap
Noxzema / Oil of Olay / CoverGirl / Max Factor make-up & skin care
Cascade / Dawn / Joy dish soap
Always / Tampax femine care
Aussie / Clairol / Head & Shoulders / Infusium 23 / Pantene hair care
Bounty
Mr. Clean / Swiffer
Braun / Crest / Fixodent / Gleem / Scope / Oral B oral care
Iams and Eukanuba pet food (I am NOT kidding!) :(
Gillette
Folgers / Millstone / Pringles (WTF???)

www.pandgkills.com/main.html

And here is a further list of SHAME (though far from complete) of common household product companies that CONTINUE to test on animals:
Nair
BenGay
Ban Roll-on
Drano
Lysol
Listerine
Playtex Corporation
Pledge
Polident
Post-It
Tilex
Clorox
*Burt's Bees (due to buy out by Clorox!) :(
Johnson & Johnson
S.C. Johnson & Son
Kleenex
Kimberly-Clark Corp
Suave
Glade
Arm & Hammer
ArmorAll
Colgate-Palmolive
*Tom's of Maine (due to buy out by Colgate-Palmolive!) :(
Science Diet Pet Food (I am not kidding!) :(

I know it is hard in our fast-paced lives to seek out new brands and where to purchase them, but you CAN make a difference in the welfare of animals by boycotting the above mentioned brands...

There ARE many earth-safe / animal safe companies out there that have GREAT products - Such as:
Seventh Generation: www.seventhgeneration.com/ (Find @ Trader Joe's!)
Planet: www.planetinc.com/ (Find @ Von's and Albertsons!)
The Natural Dentist: www.thenaturaldentist.com/ (Find @ Walgreen's!)

Who else do you test pet food on, if not ... animals ...?

The Iams animal testing is not a "Take the Pepsi Challenge" kind of test...
It is laboratory testing, i.e. - caged/restrained animals force fed, then experimented upon and eventually killed and disected...

        www.iamscruelty.com/

Also, to look at the big picture: Procter and Gamble, as a company, continues to torture animals by way of unnecessary laboratory testing.

        For example:
Even if they don't test the exact chemicals used to produce Charmin toilet tissue on animals (again, an example), if you buy Charmin, you are supporting Procter and Gamble as a company, therefore, you are inadvertantly supporting their descision to continue animal testing.

Universal-Conciousness my friends - The BIG Picture....

        Hope this helps! :)

          *Burt's Bees
          *Tom's of Maine

          Aaaaaaaaaaah!

          WTF?

I don't think I can get Laura to stop using these...

          They used to be safe.

Yeah, Burt's Bees has the ONLY baby butt cream that works!!

Infused with things like lavendar and rosemary, no other diaper cream soothes truely angry baby skin like that!

I don't use the rest of their stuff, but the butt cream will have to stay, for just a few more months...

Yah, unfortunately, these small companies are now owned by bigger, scarier companies:

Tom's of Maine is now owned by Colgate-Palmolive
Burt's Bees is currently being taken over by Clorox

            :(

burts bees and Clorox are SO the Antithesis of each other. It just doesn't sound right!!

Aveda's Skin Firming/Toning Mist is a fabulous rosewater spritz that I canNOT live without. (well I could, but life wouldn't feel as fresh)

Not to belittle your cause. I totally agree.

But my brain does strange things as you know. When I read Always I thought, "Why the hell would you need to test a maxi pad on an animal?" Then I pictured a bunny with a maxi pad on it's head. Now I think I need to photoshop that.

    I am a strange girl.

  • AWESOME INFO ON ANIMAL TESTING... BE ENLIGHTENED!!! :)

    Thu, November 29, 2007 - 11:22 AM
If you think Animal Experiments are Necessary Consider The Following:

    * Less than 2% of human illnesses (1.16%) are ever seen in animals. Over 98% never are.

    * At least 50 drugs on the market cause cancer in lab animals. They are allowed because it is admitted that animal tests are not relevant.

    * When asked if they agreed that animal experimentation can be misleading because of anatomical and physiological differences between animals and humans, 88% of doctors agreed.

    * Rats are 37% effective in identifying what causes cancer in humans. Flipping a coin would be more accurate.

    * According to animal tests lemon juice is deadly poison, but arsenic, hemlock and botulin are safe.

    * 40% of patients suffer side effects as a result of prescription treatment.

    * Over 200,000 medicines have been released most of which are now withdrawn. According to the World Health Organisation, 240 medicines are essential.

    * Thousands of drugs passed safe in animals have been withdrawn or banned due to their effect on human health.

    * Aspirin fails animal tests, as do digitalis (heart drug), cancer treatments, insulin (causes animal birth defects), penicillin and other safe medicines. They would be banned if results from animal experimentation were accurate.

    * When the producers of thalidomide were taken to court, they were aquitted after numerous experts agreed animal tests could not be relied on for human medicine.

    * At least 450 methods exist with which we can replace animal experiments.

    * Morphine puts humans asleep but excites cats.

    * 95% of drugs passed by animal tests are immediately disgarded as useless or dangerous to humans.

    * One is six patients in hospital are there because the drug they have taken had been passed safe for us on humans after animal tests.

    * Worldwide, at least 22 animals die every second in labs. In the UK one animal dies every five seconds.

    * The contraceptive pill causes blood clots in humans but it had the opposite effect in dogs.

    * We use aspirin for aches and pains. It causes birth defects mice, rabbits and rats.

    * Researchers refused to believe that benzene could cause cancer in humans because it failed to in animal tests.

    * Dogs failed to predict heart problems caused by the cardiovascular drugs encainide and flecainide, which led to an estimated 3,000 deaths in the USA.

    * Heart by pass surgery was put on hold for years because it didnt work on dogs.

    * If we had relied on animal tests we would still believe that humans dont need vitamin C, that smoking doesnt cause cause cancer and alcohol doesnt cause liver damage.

    * It was denied for decades that asbestos caused disease in humans because it didnt in animals.

    * Polio researchers were mislead for years about how we catch the disease because they had experimented on monkeys.

    * As one researcher points out, the ultimate dilemma with any animal model of human disease is that it can never reflect the human situation with complete accuracy."

    DEADLY CHOCOLATE
This is is just disgusting.... :(

Got a sweet tooth? Think twice before picking up a Mars candy bar! You should know that candymaker Mars, Inc.—creator of M&M's, Snickers, Twix, Dove, Three Musketeers, Starburst, Skittles, and other candies—funds deadly animal tests, even though there are more reliable human studies and not one of the tests is required by law.

Mars is currently funding a deadly experiment on rats to determine the effects of chocolate ingredients on their blood vessels. Experimenters force-feed the rats by shoving plastic tubes down their throats and then cut open the rats' legs to expose an artery, which is clamped shut to block blood flow. After the experiment, the animals are killed. Mars has also funded cruel experiments in which mice were fed a candy ingredient and forced to swim in a pool of a water mixed with white paint. The mice had to find a hidden platform to avoid drowning, only to be killed and dissected later on. In yet another experiment supported by Mars, rats were fed cocoa and anesthetized with carbon dioxide so that their blood could be collected by injecting a needle directly into their hearts, which can lead to internal bleeding and other deadly complications.

Mars' top competitor, Hershey's, has pledged not to fund or conduct experiments on animals. Other major food corporations—including Coca-Cola, PepsiCo, Ocean Spray, Welch's, and POM Wonderful—have also publicly ended animal tests after hearing from PETA.

    TAKE ACTION!

With more than 150,000 supporters behind us and the movement growing daily, now is the time to reach out to all those people who don't yet know about the reality of feral and stray cat animal control policies in this country.

That's why Alley Cat Allies (ACA) has created a public service announcement and website to share an important and sad truth about feral cats: all over the country, healthy feral and stray cats are being trapped and killed as local governments try to control their numbers.

With your help, we can reach 50,000 people in 50 days to share this message and build the movement to stop the killing and start humane care.

    So what can you do?

Visit the SAVE THIS CAT Website: www.alleycat.org/ to learn how you can spread the message!

Many Americans don't know that their tax dollars are being spent killing millions of cats each year. They don't know that this cruel and expensive policy just doesn't work. They don't know that a humane alternative exists.

But with your help, they will, and they will join the fight to stop it.

So please do your part today by helping us spread the message. Together, we can save the lives of our nation's stray and feral cats.

**On a personal note, feral cats CAN be socialized with humans... My beautiful Lily was born feral in a Wal-Mart Garden Center 8 years ago (on New Year's Day!) - with lots of love and patience, she is the BEST companion I have EVER had ~ Politti :)

I belong to Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine and have been donating to the Remembering Rodney fund for over a year to help stop animal testing. They are making a difference in getting some medical schools to stop animal testing etc. You might want to look into PCRM. Carolena of Fatchance sends out bulletins about things to do to help also and I try to sponsor only companies that refrain from animal testing. I also sponsor Greyhounds of America, Redwings, Donkey Rescue and I own a rescued Rottweiler/Pitbull mix named Delilah who is very big and unusual looking but very very sweet with people. I do believe that one person can make a difference. I hope I have made a difference through PCRM, Redwings, Donkey Rescue, and some rescued Greyhounds. I think I have a difference in Delilah's life-I know she has made a difference in mine! Most importantly, I am a vegan.

        Hey Zahira,
I would love more info on Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine and the other organizations you support. At the studio, I have LOTS of Animal Rights hand outs (PETA, P&G Kills, etc..) and would really like to support these too!
I am so happy your heart belongs to the welfare of animals!

Every couple of months at our Exotic Blend Showcases, we are going to start collecting $$ to donate to various charities - At our January Show, we collected $105 in tip $$ (!) to donate to the National Breast Cancer Foundation... So awesome!
And I know the donations will just keep getting bigger and better. :)
April's Exotic Blend will be dedicated to animal warfare, specifically the ending of animal testing... Anyone out there wanna sign up to dance for the animals?!?! Let me know ASAP! :D
